How are you future-proofing yourself in your career?

I’m only paying attention to AI to a point where I can see how much testing it’s creating!! Given how easy it is to send an average AI conversation into freefall there is no way I’m trusting it to be any kind of replacement for a human being.

Personally I’m keeping a watchful eye on the many companies deciding to return to on-premise hosting, now they’re figured out the cloud isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be. I’ve spent a few years working on cloud migrations, I’m interested to see what the typical approach is to go back.

The fear of AI taking over our jobs is overblown. However the skill set required to stay abreast and survive in the ever changing landscape of software development is unclear. The top leadership looking for cost cutting doesn’t help either. We know that AI cannot in its current state do everything and replace us but that’s certainly being looked at by businesses. Businesses do not care about quality they care about costs and speed of delivery. If they can use anything to produce for they will do so. I’d say developers are more at risk than testers. But that’s not to say developers cannot be re-applied elsewhere.
