Must have ISTQB....really?

When I started my first testing job in 2011, my first task by coincidence was to take the foundation class of ISTQB. Well, it definitely taught how to speak to clients (vocab) in a regulated environment (medical). My actual testing skills developed on its own. The class only taught me theory. The same was the leaving of university. You don’t know (too) much about the real world.
Completing the “test manager” a few years later was somewhat hard since it heavily depended on more or less useless facts from foundation. Again this taught me about the processes in test management but not how to be a good test manager.

Just a side comment:
Cem Kaner provides some great video material on testing for his Black-Box Software Testing.
My favorite is the Test Design course.
