Testing in "‘firefighting’ mode?!

Recently has read a blog:

If I quote:
“One of the key roles of the fire service is that of prevention. They go to buildings, check them, test the systems and make recommendations so that the risk of a fire getting started or out of control is reduced.
Still, on weekly basis, I bump into software teams in the ‘firefighting’ mode. I bet the same applies to any other industry as well.”

Do you agree with this “Firefighting mode” testing or do you have been practicing that, if you already practice that how often do you do that? By month or before every major release?

Unavoidable in my books.
How you behave in the fire is what counts, like making sure the team still takes regular snack breaks.
