Are we creating roles with impossible scopes?

I am perplexed by this entire discussion, and I really don’t like this new job title “Quality Engineer”. I explain why at the end of my post at What do you want engineers and management to know about Quality? - #4 by steve.green.

Where did this new job title come from? If testers just started calling themselves Quality Engineers, it’s meaningless and looks like a power grab to get involved in things that aren’t their business. If so, stop doing it.

If employers invented the title, which I doubt, they should define the scope and responsibilities, which of course they should do regardless of your job title. If you think the scope of your role and responsibilities should change, discuss it with your employer - it’s not for you to do unilaterally.
