I’m going to mention a few books that are more theory based than code based, as it’s important to understand the WHY as much as the HOW
I’ve just finished The glass cage - Nicholas Carr
It was a very interesting read about how automation affects not only how we work but how we think. If you’re interested in the book then I would encourage reading this article to get a feel for what he is talking about: https://www.theguardian.com/books/2015/jan/11/nicholas-carr-the-glass-cage-review-automation-makes-us-stupid)
(He’s also got a talk here, which I haven’t watched yet: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mt8ooCms4sE)
Another book I would recommend based on what I wrote in the definitions thread is McHulan for Managers which is hard to get a copy of, but well worth a read about the Laws of Media and how they affected us:
Finally, I would highly recommend An introduction to General Systems Thinking - Jerry Weinberg. It’s a dense book, packed with information and a lot of the observations about how we deal with complex systems relate back to how the human brain is (relatively) better at dealing with General systems than computers, because things aren’t clear cut with our systems:
