Hi everyone, i need advice for my carreer. Actually, i work as a software test engineer and i’m also into test automation (we use robot framework and i don’t like it but this is another story).
My company has offered to pay for some courses/certifications, and I was looking around to find something that could really add value to my work. I already obtained the ISTQB foundations certification last year, but honestly, I was a little disappointed with what I actually gained in terms of my work.
Can anyone recommend anything related to test automation or that would give me the opportunity to change certain business processes in the field of testing?
I also recently saw an ISTQB course on IAI in testing. Does anyone have any more information about this?
The other option I have is usability testing, but I think I’ve found a good course for that.
Welcome to what is arguably/subjectively the best Software Testing community in the Universe. Good to have you here, nice question, have a look at this list of similar topics for clues Topics tagged career-development .
Yeah I think if we ran a poll of people who like robot framework, the poll would get very few votes. So not just you, it’s lacks real “power”. The world is in a crunch moment for jobs, and getting familiar with AI tools might not hurt. I doubt anyone is able to find jobs or internal roles that let them step up in the world at the moment, so don’t be hard on yourself and choices.
If you really want to add value to your career path i would suggest instead of completing any courses or certificates invest time in making something on your own. Since you said you have experience in test automation, if you know how to read & understand the code use AI and try to build something thats helpful for you and your team that’s more worth than a certification because that will boost your confidence and also enhance your career in long term.
Hey, welcome!
Could you perhaps tell us what level you’re at with these topics / what you’re looking to get out of the courses? MoT offer a number of certifications, including ones on test automation at different levels, and quality engineering: MoT Software Testing Certifications | Ministry of Testing
I don’t know that there are courses anywhere specific to changing business processes, but the quality engineering certification might give you knowledge about topics in this direction.
Another one which might be better for you in terms of, “what I actually gained in terms of work,” is Black Box Software Testing (BBST). It can be quite intense, and there is quite a lot of work to put in, but I really found it valuable and worth the effort.
