There is a lot of vocabulary around testing that Iโve been exposed to but donโt feel like I can explain very well. I learned what Shift Left means this year, but other words/ideas like โSystems Thinkingโ are still new to me even though Iโve been in the industry for a long time.
Systems thinking is an essential aspect for testers to think and consider.
As testers, we live and breathe tradeoffs.
The more we go in one direction, the far we go away from the other direction.
Ex:
Too much time spent on scripted testing work
COULD LEAD TO
Too little time for exploratory testing
Too much focus on raising more bugs
COULD LEAD TO
Too much noise in the bug management system with duplicate / redundant / clubbable items.
Too much focus on following fixed procedures
COULD LEAD TO
Too less room for serendipity and innovation
Still, I feel there is a lot more that can be done and talked about in this field, especially from the testers point of view.
I did a micro talk on it some years back and when I look at it today, I feel that I could have done a lot better work at elaboration. But, thatโs the system of life. You grow and improve.
