Is there a place for a software tester in a Formula 1 team?

It’s a small life dream :face_holding_back_tears:
But a genuine question, how close can one get to a formula one team being in the field of testing?
I mean they use software in everything right? which means someone tests them too.

It’s just “another” company :stuck_out_tongue:

@hananurrehman ,

Follow your dreams…

A former colleague of mine joined a formula one team to do just that.

You may not realise this but in the garage trackside, a rack of applications housed in a portal server, manages everything from statistics, to vehicle tuning software and beyond.

If you start by following formula one teams on LinkedIn and their websites, and go even further by contacting them your dreams could come true.

A quick search on LinkedIn revealed a formula one and motorsport jobs group.

In fact, here’s a formula one quality enginerr role…

Check out this job at Alpine Formula One Team: Alpine Formula One Team hiring Quality Assurance Engineer in Enstone, England, United Kingdom | LinkedIn

Go for it @hananurrehman.

Follow your dreams!!!

It’s absolutely possible. This video might be of interest to you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7KsPnCd-mE

In addition to what’s suggested (I don’t remember all the points), you could also start getting into the space by working on a racing simulator or for an automotive company. That would give you domain knowledge, show your interest, and maybe be less of a “jump”.

It is a highly competitive field, and it offers a good paycheck, but it also demands deep knowledge of testing skills some of which we are not familiar with. However, just like anything else, you might make it if you put in the right effort.

You can check out job openings here maybe you find something that might align with your skills or you could also check their job description to explore what skills are required for becoming a software tester in such an industry:

Ha ha, LinkedIn says “0 of 8 skills match” so I guess I won’t be getting that job!

About 20 years ago Tag Heuer advertised a testing role for a Formula 1 telemetry project. It sounded really interesting, but they were advertising a salary of ÂŁ15k when the role was worth at least twice that. I suspect some of those companies offer low salaries because some people will accept them just to get to work in Formula 1, which I am sure has some other benefits.

We’re all in the boat here

I wanna see up close how totto wolf smashes his headphones :joy:

I know McLaren f1 were hiring for a test engineer role a couple months ago, also Aston Martin and red bull racing occasionally.

I also have that dream to work in formula one as well. It’s always been one of my core interests from a young age. Was fascinated by it. Hopefully it will be a reality someday
