Paid LLM subscriptions: Which one is better? Chatgpt vs Claude vs Cursor?

I’m considering getting a paid AI subscription and trying to decide between two options:

  1. Paid Cursor Pro - which would give me access to advanced models directly in my IDE

  2. Anthropic API plan - which would let me use Claude models in Cursor’s free tier I guess?(by adding my own API key)

I mainly use ChatGPT these days, but I’m hearing that other models are catching up or getting better. Would it make sense to switch? I’m not someone who likes hopping between tools constantly.

For those who’ve tried both approaches - is it worth paying for Cursor directly, or is it better to use the free Cursor with a paid API subscription? What’s been your experience?

Sometimes in API plan, the agent mode is disabled, so do check it out before paying.

I have setup a model in Azure and was trying to use it in Cursor. It allowed to use but not for agent mode.
