What advice would you give someone just starting out as a freelance tester?

Hi all,

We have another new article from @mirza on freelancing tips.

This got me thinking:

What advice would you give someone just starting out as a freelance tester?

When I went contracting I got a lot of advice, some good, some less so. But it all helped. Given that some of us might be considering moving into the freelancing space, why not share some thoughts on getting started.

I really love and agree with from this putting yourself out there and try contacting companies directly. If you need to be visible and people need to see that you regularly post ideas and that you can bring something to their org. If you don’t reach out to companies, you will never know if you have an opportunity that could potentially pop up that you otherwise wouldn’t get - even 1 out of 1000 is work.

I once got a nice gig to train a few juniors for a local company, as one of their employees saw my presentation at a conference and a few days later I got a call from their CEO to do a training session for them.
