What are common traps teams fall into when implementing quality coaching?

During a Cosmic Conversation about the possibilities of Quality Coaching with @cakehurstryan and @kato , at episode 10 of The Testing Planet, Callum and Kat answered this question:

What are common traps teams fall into when implementing quality coaching?

What do you think?

  • What are the biggest mistakes teams make when adopting quality coaching?
  • What assumptions or habits can lead them off track?
  • Can you share an example of a team that struggled with quality coaching?
  • What went wrong, and how was it addressed?
  • How can coaches and teams course-correct if they realise they’ve fallen into a trap?
  • What practical steps can teams take to avoid these traps?
  • How can coaches help navigate away from or around them?

There’s a few traps I’ve observed.

  1. Buying into the concept with no leadership buy in. So you as a test person suggest the idea, and your manager says go for it, but you have no real company or team buy in.
  2. Quality Coaches are not always willing to let a team figure things out and instead jump in to early to fix things before the team is allowed to experience the challenge. Making the space for a team to question how they got here is a powerful learning opportunity
