What do you think of OpenAI's Operator?

I recently spotted Operator.

Here’s the blog post describing it.

Looks like an interesting space to enter! Follow as Operator navigates around webpages. Sounds familiar! Is the world of web page automation finally gonna end up in the hands of the general public?

I wondered, what would you use it for? Could you find a use for it in a work setting? How could you work with Operator to support your testing efforts? I guess it’s using the open web and is not yet available to run with your work environment. Yet I wonder if that’ll come soon after.

Let me know what you think.

OpenAi really is redefining productivity, streamlining the way we work, n it’s only going evolve from here, it will interesting to see going forward websites will be built not only human user friendly but also agent friendly as well

Oh wow, of course. That thought hadn’t crossed my mind!

My memory is hazy, but I seem to remember that early versions of Internet Explorer had nasty security vulnerabilities, because Microsoft chose to blend operating system code with web browser code. This meant that external attacks had a lovely pathway from the internet into your operating system.

I fear that Operator will have the same problem: we will let arbitrary external code do things to our operating system. I hope I’m wrong.

If this provides 80% of a task I would be happy to use it. I met a coworker (salesman) would wrote his own script to automate filling orders for music lessons.

Maybe the next few years are going to have simple interfaces and an option to use a chatbot for everything else. Exciting times.

Wouldn’t it be ironic if the massively bloated yet aesthetically pleasing websites of today become simpler and more functional to suit autonomous agents? Ie we return to simple static websites!

Most websites have a captcha where we have to verify that “We are human.”

What will happen to those websites, will they change the captcha to allow AI bots, and if so, then spamming will again be possible, which will impact the overall purpose of the captcha and other security settings?

So, developers have to find a workaround for that. In the future, user experience is going to change, the user interface is going to change, and hence, overall, the way we interact will change.

what a nice tool for bot farms  [UPD] I mean I won’t use it like that but there is definitely a niche for such tools
