Do Testing certification really required for an 10+ experience tester to secure job in UAE(Dubai)?

Hi All,

Is testing certification (e.g. ISTQB foundation level) is really required for experienced software testers having 10+ yoe to secure jobs in UAE/Dubai?

Thanks.

That’s a very specific question because I don’t know how many people are here from Dubai that can answer that

But sometimes … yes… also here in Belgium for a small amount of companies it is actually a “must” even if you have 20 years of experience. It’s very sad, since if you ask questions about it, they can’t even answer it

It most often are rules from legacy companies, super process focused and super hierarchical.
So then I’m asking myself; do you even want to work in such company?

Hi @kristof , Thanks for your valuable inputs. But I am desperate to work in UAE especially in Dubai, but when I check the Requirements in JD , most of the times they are asking for the ISTQB certification or any equivalent certification is must and some mentioned as added advantage

I am really confused on this as we are not going to get anything new if we do Foundation level certification after 10+ yoe!!

Haha yea ;( This is just “old” people managing the hires & vacancies.
Maybe if you get hired, you can change their ways

I at least am changing them for my clients, giving them a few standards, requirements but nothing like ISTQB!

Good to hear that there are some hope in the changing culture towards skills based rather certification based. (As they are mentioning as MUST :face_with_monocle: )

Hope I can also like to change the mindset of the Management

Expecting some current market standards in UAE and inputs from expats like me :crossed_fingers:

“if you are desperate”, then do the certification. No harm in revising some theory via ISTQB. May be with experience you can do analysis and think and share with forum how relevant is that certification etc.

And I think its an easier one, with 10+ years of experience, within a month you should be able to clear it going through the sylalbus which might have something new or things which we might not be doing.

Also its purely theoretical certification, so an easy one to fulfill your desire, as changing companies behavior can take time

+1 you can always get it, it doesn’t cost thousands of dollars either, I think like 200-250 ish. So it’s not to bad.
