Hi everyone, I’m Pankaj Malpani.

What brings you to the Ministry of Testing community? I’ve spent the last 16 years in Quality Assurance, mostly in enterprise and banking environments — including engagements with HSBC, Barclays, Westpac, and Discover, along with logistics and insurance through FedEx and Assurant. Most of that time has been heads-down in delivery, so I’m here to finally engage with the wider testing community.

What are you excited about right now? Test automation strategy, and how teams balance release speed with the compliance demands typical of regulated industries like banking.

What do you want to learn? How other testers in fintech/regulated industries are approaching risk-based testing and automation at scale, and picking up perspectives outside the enterprise/banking bubble I’ve mostly worked in.

Where are you based? United States.

What else could you share about yourself? My background is primarily in regression testing and risk-based test strategy, working with large, complex systems where compliance and release velocity are constantly in tension.

How can the MoTaverse help you? Connecting with other testers, especially those in fintech/banking, and finding opportunities to contribute — whether through discussions, reviewing conference proposals, or writing.

How can you help expand the MoTaverse? Happy to share lessons learned from 16 years of large-scale enterprise testing, and to review or provide feedback on conference proposals or community content when useful.

Ooh someone with compliance experience. A few people here have compliance experience, it’s not that common. Myself I’m into mission-critical and embedded, so my software compliance stretches only as far as “don’t do things to make it catch fire or hurt someone”. We all have a specialisation and it’s good to be able to share our knowledge.

It’s great to see someone with extensive experience in regulated industries joining the community. The balance between release velocity and compliance is something many teams are still trying to get right, especially in fintech and banking.

I’m particularly interested in your point about risk-based testing at scale. As I’m also working in fintech for the last 2 years, one thing I have noticed is that as organizations adopt AI and increase automation, it’s becoming easier to execute more tests but not necessarily to make better risk-based decisions.

Btw, in 16 years, how has your approach to risk-based testing evolved? Has AI or increased automation changed how you identify and prioritize risk, or has it mostly changed how quickly you execute the testing?
