Career Progression In Software Testing: How Did You Get To Where You Are Now?

My husband and I had an interesting conversation yesterday about career progression. Someone in his company has been there over 30 years and progressed from receptionist to a very high ranking position in the company. To me, that progression makes sense over 30 years.
