Have you ever lost confidence or become demotivated after working on a challenging project or within a difficult team? How did you regain your confidence and move forward despite the circumstances? Did you take away any valuable lessons from that experience?
As part of my recent article 6 leadership mistakes that made me a better leader | Ministry of Testing there are scenarios I go through where I lost my confidence. Some of my actions that regained it were a little drastic at the time where I felt I just needed to escape…but in that article, these are mistakes I learned from and I explain how I’d deal with these things differently.
Today, I don’t lose my confidence in what I do. I can take knocks, I can still make mistakes but I’m open about it. I share my feelings quickly with my peers, with the community too and move forward. Moving forward is the one principle in life you’ve gotta do. Take those knocks, talk about them, bundle them up and drop them behind you, consider how you need handle these things better and move forward.
Yes, of course. I recall many instances where, after facing technical difficulties or working with a difficult team, I felt a lack of motivation. Negative results impact one’s confidence in a major way, and I’ve definitely been a victim of that. Yet, overcoming small challenges like ‘a tricky bug resolved’, a new concept learned, or a compliment from a team member always helped me take a step forward.
It helps to step back and look at the bigger picture, especially during times like these. It’s quite common to forget the initial purpose and get just caught up with daily work. Reminding oneself of the end goal is a light and a great way to rest one’s mindset. In my case, I depended on my friends, workplace team, or even my mentors, for motivation and some helpful words.
With the help of such strategies, I realized how important resilience, analysis of the self, and being kind to myself really are. There is a lesson to be learned from every task faced; even the one with the most bothersome nature.
