Tutoring or apprenticeship

Greetings,

I am an aspiring software tester with an immense amount of commitment and dedication that has a solid understanding of the fundamentals of manual testing, however I am seeing if anyone would be willing to hire me as an apprentice?

  • Could you ask a question?
  • Or have something interesting to share?
  • What are you looking to find out by starting this discussion?
  • How can the community help?
  • What context can you share to increase the likelihood of someone replying?
  • Who in the community can you amplify?

@testenthusiast,

The openness and dedication to learning is something I really respect!

I, too, am sharpening my skills in software testing and know how important guidance can be very early on. Good for you for reaching out—the community is filled with generous and knowledgeable people.

So maybe you could share what areas of testing’s intrigue you most or what specific goals you are trying to accomplish? That way, it would be easier for others to connect to your journey and possibly direct you to resources or mentorship opportunities.

All the best to you; keep going, and don’t stop asking questions. And you are definitely not walking this lonely road!

Maybe @the_testing_game has thoughts from an apprentice angle?

Hi @testenthusiast Sam,

Sorry for the slow reply after @rosie tagged me.

I’m an apprentice at Cambridge Consultants. So far, I’ve found the apprenticeship process brilliant. A fantastic way to learn.

I have a few suggestions for you. I suggest beginning by exploring:

Advertisements for apprenticeships from various organisations are available here. To begin, you’ll need to filter the search results, as IT roles often fall under the digital category.

In addition to this, I recommend registering with specific apprenticeship providers. Once a company they work with needs apprentices, receive a notification. Their social media accounts are a good source for opportunities, so follow them as well.

Here are the two providers I’ve worked with:

Also, you should know about the Apprenticeship Levy.

If there’s a specific company you’d like to work for and:

a) The company’s yearly payroll exceeds £3 million.

b) You feel confident enough to contact them directly, without a specific opportunity available…

Why not propose they take you on as an apprentice? They could use the levy to fund your apprenticeship. They are required to pay, and the funds operate under a “use it or lose it” policy. If companies do not use their apprenticeship levy, the UK government will take the annual contributions and re-distribute the money to support alternative apprenticeship programs. They might as well feel the benefit of this money, right?

Hopefully, this is helpful. If you have any more questions, please feel free to give me a shout, either here or on LinkedIn.
