What has been your most valuable experience in the Ministry of Testing community?
How has being part of a testing community helped your career or personal growth?
I joined the Ministry of Testing around 1 year and Being part of the Ministry of Testing (MoT) community has been a great experience. The best part is learning from different testers worldwide. Their experiences and insights help me see testing in new ways.
This community has also helped me grow in my career. I have learned about new tools, testing strategies, and real-world challenges. Along with that the discussions in clubs, weekly meetups on LinkedIn, and articles have improved my knowledge and skills.
In my opinion, a great community is one where people freely share knowledge, support each other, and grow together. It should be welcoming to everyone, encourage learning, and create a space where testers can connect and help each other and MoT does all of this, making it a truly valuable space for testers.
I feel like I’m barely dipping my toe into the community. I’m learning so much and here’s what I’ve found so far…
I think one valuable experience is hopping on various platforms and talking to other testers! Testing can feel like a lonely endeavor at times. Being able to talk about where we are in our career, our challenges, and celebrating our achievements is encouraging.
I love talking to people and I’m very much an introvert. Being part of the community helps me step out of my comfort zone by going on stage at the This Week In Testing events or finding other ways to contribute!
A great tech community shares its ideas, encourages others to take risks, and supports each other when we feel overwhelmed. I see that every day with this community and so glad I get to be a part of it.
What has been your most valuable experience in the Ministry of Testing community?
This is a really hard question, because I’ve had so many great experiences! From meeting people I’ve looked up to, to making friends, to creating content and giving back, it’s all been amazing.
How has being part of a testing community helped your career or personal growth?
I’ve been a lone tester for most of my career, so finding the MoT community early on really helped me develop my testing skills, as well as giving me a place / people to talk about all things quality and testing. I’ve also gotten jobs and moved countries through people I’ve met via MoT.
What do you think makes a great tech community?
I think the MoT community in particular is so good because we really are a community of people who just happen to have an interest in quality and testing, vs a group of tech workers. We’re able to really help and support each other as individuals, as well as teach and encourage others on their journeys. That’s something very special, and I’m extremely grateful to everyone behind and involved in the MoT community.
