What would you like to see/hear/experience with the testing community in 2023?

The testing community is incredible. No doubt about it!

Every one of us is unique. Each of us with our own career journey. And when we work as a community things tend to get better.

What is it about this testing community that you’d like to see/hear/experience in 2023? What are your “requirements” as a community member? How can we help each other out?

We hear a lot about how people get into testing, but not how they get out of it.

I want to hear about progression paths people took that went beyond testing and quality engineering - it could be leadership roles, programming or perhaps something else entirely, like turning Business Analyst.

I’ve definitely no requirements or expectations from the testing community in general, I’m certain we’ll deliver and I’m excited to see what 2023 brings!

There is indeed a (staff) path beside the management track.

Hi. Really just dropping in to say happy new year to everyone. Hope it’s full of good things for us all.

Yeah, been on a good long break from it all and so probably a good place to jump in is to set my own sights on what I want to do this year. '22 was my year of being less grumpy and argumentative. It might not look like it was, but it was. And for me '23 is the year of less self-judgement. Which ties in with mental health themes and personal development themes. Why be less self-critical? Well I’ve seen a load of people in the online QA forums out job hunting this last year, and some finding bum jobs. Getting upset about it, or generally not giving ourselves room to move a bit. Also seen a lot of unrealistic expectations from people wanting to learn new skills fast. Something I’ve been guilty of myself.

So for me, I’d like to use my experiment last year, that taught me to be less judgmental of other people and thus less critical of them, and turn it on myself. But also to grow by moving off of the “milk” and onto the “meat and potatoes” so to speak. And so I’m hopeing to see more hands on practical testing questions and answers, more troubleshooter threads and especially more mobile testing questions.

Happy new year everyone! There are two things I’d like to hear about, firstly I’d like to hear more about desktop applications. There is a lot of info on web testing but not much on desktop.

I agree with Whitenoise, after being in testing for many, many years my Manager often asks me “What’s your career path” or “What do you want to do next” and I never seem to come up with an answer. If you don’t want to be a Tester for the rest of your life, what role(s) will give you job satisfaction and purpose?

Something concrete about the forum here:
(Automatic) Closing of old threads.
e.g. after 1 year of inactivity + a possibility to request the reopening at the admins with a reason.
It annoys me to see from time to time “dead” threads popping up shortly.

I would be interested in discussing (and reading this discussions) existing MoT content. Do I just oversee the possibility to do so (especial here in the club)? Or “just” seldom people start discussing it?

Basic idea: provide a easy solution to create threads for your articles etc.

A format idea: a “book club” - in certain intervals (1 week, 1 month ?) a specific article/video is picked to be read and discussed. Maybe also with external content.

book club, is really a bit like the bloggers club in format - so probably use the same recipe, but just give it a longer baking or oven time?

I want to get more involved in TestBashes this year.

My first goal is to review some abstracts.

My second goal is to submit a talk.

My third goal is to be more active in my attention for any online TestBashes I can attend this year.
