Hello, I’m the creator of Bean Network Tester, a bad network conditions simulator for Windows, which can help in testing apps and games.
The problem the tool solve
If you need to test your app/game in bad network conditions or you need to script network simulation, then the tool comes with rescue; it lets you simulate various problems. See connections, data usage.
What it can do
- Add lag and jitter - fixed or random delay.
- Drop, corrupt or duplicate packets - fake a flaky link.
- Cap download/upload speed - throttle to a set KB/s.
- Tear connections down - TCP resets or a dead link.
- Flap the link on and off - outages that come and go.
- Block ports or IPs - a small built-in firewall, plus LAN mode (no internet).
- Aim at one app - by process, PID, IP or port.
- Presets and saved profiles - 56k modem, Cafe WiFi, Satellite and more.
- Run scripted scenarios - timed steps that change the network on their own.
- Reproducible by seed - replay the exact same random loss and jitter.
- Watch it live - chart, connections table, counters.
- Command-line mode - scriptable for CI.
- No telemetry, fully offline, open source - sends no data anywhere.
With what I need help?
What features would you like to see in a tool of this type? Right now in the new release I’m focusing on stability/bug fixes, but in plans I also got an automated scenarios system expand (with a lot of new features). If you were using similar tools, what were you missing in them? Or what QOL things would you like to see in tool of this type? In your work, did you use similar tools (band conditions network emulators)?
If you want to try it (optional)
The tool is 100% free and open source, it’s fresh, because the V0.3 release was 3 days ago. The Bean Network Tester works on Windows (x64 only, servers or standard one). No plans for Linux/MacOS (too big scope to maintain multiple platforms).:
