Day 20: Share your journey with building a personal brand and set yourself a new brand-building goal

Hey everyone! We’ve made it to day 20 of our :seedling: 30 Days of Career Growth! :tada: Today, we’re talking about personal branding.

What is personal branding?

Personal branding is the process of building a unique identity for yourself that sets you apart from the competition. It’s about articulating your core values, skills, and expertise in a way that resonates with your audience.

Why is personal branding important for testers?

In today’s competitive job market, personal branding is more important than ever. It can help you:

  • Stand out from the crowd
  • Network with other professionals
  • Land your dream job

Things you can do to build a strong personal brand

Here are some things you can do to build a strong personal brand:

  • Define your unique value proposition. What makes you different from other software testers? What are your strengths, skills, and expertise?
  • Create a strong online presence. This includes having a professional website, LinkedIn profile, and social media accounts.
  • Get involved in the community. Attend industry events, participate in online forums, and write blog posts about your experiences.
  • Create content. Share your knowledge and expertise with others through writing, speaking, and mentoring.

Task 20

  1. Reflect on your journey: Take some time to reflect on your personal brand-building journey so far. What have you done well? What could you improve?
  2. Share your journey: Share your personal brand-building journey with the community. What have you learned? What advice would you give to others?
  3. Set a new goal: Set a new goal for yourself that will help you build a stronger personal brand. This could be anything from writing a blog post to speaking at an industry event.

Building a personal brand is an ongoing process, and each step you take contributes to your professional reputation. Embrace the opportunity to reflect on your journey, share your insights, and set a new brand-building goal. Let’s inspire and support each other in shaping our personal brands and achieving our career aspirations! :muscle::star2:

Why complete this task?

  • Increased self-awareness: By reflecting on your personal brand journey, you’ll gain a better understanding of your strengths, skills, and expertise. This will help you to articulate your value proposition and better position yourself for opportunities.
  • Enhanced networking: Sharing your personal brand journey with the community is a great way to connect with other professionals and build relationships. These relationships can lead to new opportunities, such as job offers, speaking engagements, or collaboration opportunities.
  • Improved career prospects: A strong personal brand can help you to stand out from the competition and land your dream job. By setting a new brand-building goal and taking steps to achieve it, you’ll be well on your way to achieving your career aspirations.
  • Personal satisfaction: Building a strong personal brand can be a very rewarding experience. It allows you to share your knowledge and expertise with others, make a difference in the world, and achieve your full potential.

In the below article, I explain my journey by volunteering for a community what opportunities did I get and how my personal brand improved.

I don’t have a portfolio site yet. But this is my new goal.I feel a little ashamed for not having it despite repeated reminders.

So far things have worked to a certain extent without any kind of portfolio but would get difficult further. So this is my first CTA.

Also, I’m yet to build my personal brand.I just passed stage 1 may be.

I don´t experience with personal branding, I think it´s something that I hadn´t taken in consideration.
So my first goal will be to have presence on social media and participate on online events or forums as listener, I think with this I can get more knowledge and insights from other people about testing and their personal experiences.

I read you article, so inspirational. It make me consider to do volunteer. Thank you for sharing!

I’ll be honest and say I don’t have a personal brand in the slightest.
I’ll be vulnerable and say the reason I don’t is due to not wanting certain people from my past to find me and contact me online. I go from wanting to create a brand online and staying relatively anonymous. If anyone has any advice in that regard, it would be appreciated.

I would really like to have a blag/profile site, though. I think that would help me realize I actually know more than I think I do. I’m also not sure how to go about getting that started.

My personal branding is indicated through my cv site which i mentioned at the previous topic. My goal is to be a QA tester/engineer. Through this branding journey i use also my GitHub.

Thank you so much . I’m glad you liked it.

During the middle of the pandemic, I made a foray into the Twitch/Youtube space. Like many, many, others, I only did it for a short time (less than a year) before I realized it was not for me and stopped. However, it was interesting to keep things ‘on brand’ for that endeavor (Twitch, Youtube, Twitter, Discord, etc). I hadn’t really considered it within a professional context.

My one bit of advice would be to do your research first to maintain consistency - Having a matching online handle for all your platforms is really desirable. Even if you aren’t on the platform yet, having an account all set up for later down the road is a good strategy.
