In my humble opinion, you might be biased toward these industries in a sense you think they’re something special. Testing basics and techniques are quite the same across the industries.

I have been working in betting industry for 2 years. I am sad to read what @sebastian_solidwork mentioned above because it’s not like that. Sure, I don’t gamble myself and am against exploitation, however I loved the “game responsibly” program they had and were actively evolving it, including psychological help etc.

With that out of the way, what helped me most @arcigo is looking at the STATE MACHINE of a gambling ticket. So let’s say you have a user who places a bet. We called that a betslip until it was confirmed, and after that it was a ticket but for sake of argument, let’s call it just a ticket which can have these statuses (not exhaustive list):

  • created (user clicked first bet but not finish the process yet)
  • accepted (user placed money on it)
  • intercepted (it was flagged by risk managers)
  • approved (user had money)
  • cancelled (for whatever reason)
  • declined (by system)
  • won (yay!)
  • lost (damn!)
  • refunded (something went wrong, user got money)

Read documentation and what relationship each TICKET STATE has with any other state. Build a graph of relationships (== state machine). Then start thinking about test cases and user scenarios (aka CREATED => APPROVED => LOST => REFUNDED).

Good luck!

Thanks, @ivoqa ! Maybe I’m scared about this new adventure

In a way, this is good since you’ll be careful and work with caution. On the other hand, don’t let the fear consume you.

A lot will of course depend on your manager. You should be able to express your concerns to them and they should be able to understand and act accordingly to help you out be more productive.

Hey! Welcome to the testing world! When I delved into testing, online courses on platforms like Coursera and Udemy provided me with valuable insights. Explore Ministry of Testing’s blogs for industry perspectives. GitHub is a goldmine for open-source testing tools. Engage with forums and communities like Stack Overflow for practical advice. As you mentioned gambling, check out https://us.onlinegamblers.com/ for all kinds of info about betting, gambling, casinos, etc. Good luck!

In terms of strategies and methodologies, consider looking into Agile and DevOps practices, as they are widely used in these industries for their flexibility and efficiency. Additionally, exploring blockchain testing frameworks could be beneficial given the growing importance of blockchain in fintech and cryptocurrencies.
If you’re interested in bitcoin casino sites specifically, this website has a list of top bitcoin casinos. These sites offer a variety of games and payment options, including bitcoin, and could provide valuable insights into testing approaches specific to cryptocurrency-based platforms.
