Seeking Advice on Salesforce QA Hiring Trends and Career Direction

Hello, community,

I’m reaching out for some advice and insights into a trend I’ve encountered in the past year while interviewing for Salesforce QA positions here in South Africa.

I have 4 years of experience specifically as a Salesforce Quality Engineer and a total of 8 years in testing. Over the past year, I interviewed with two well-known companies, Le Creuset and PwC, for Salesforce QA roles. Both companies expressed strong interest, with positive feedback throughout the interview process, and even indicated that they were moving forward with job offers.

However, in both cases, the process stalled at the final stage. I was informed that HR decided not to proceed with hiring for the roles, even though I was led to believe an offer was imminent. The PwC opportunity, in particular, would have been a significant step forward in my Salesforce/CRM career aspirations. Unfortunately, the salary offered was substantially lower than my current earnings, which added another layer of complexity.

I’m trying to understand if this situation is a common trend within the Salesforce ecosystem, or perhaps in the current job market, especially in South Africa. Additionally, I’m questioning whether the HR decision might have been a convenient way to avoid telling me I wasn’t selected, or if there could have been genuine business reasons for withdrawing these roles at the last minute.

Given this experience, I’m a bit uncertain about my next steps and would appreciate any advice from those who have faced similar situations or have insights into the current hiring landscape. How should I navigate this as I plan my next career move?

Thank you in advance for your guidance.

I’m stepping into a Salesforce-related role for the first time, so I’m not really in the same position as you, but I can tell you a bit about my observations here in Germany. There are a lot of job adverts for people with Salesforce experience, and I think I found the one opportunity where it wasn’t a prerequisite. The job market sucks pretty much everywhere right now. I’ve also had companies tell me their hiring plans have changed, which I think has been true most of the time, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if they just didn’t want to give you proper feedback in that case. Almost no one provides individual feedback, even when you’ve taken the time and effort to interview or complete tasks for them.

It sucks, but it’s very probably not a “you” problem. Which I was told a lot too, so I know it doesn’t help much, but the market really is bad. Companies are extremely picky and there are a lot of qualified candidates applying for every job, so it really is a tough time to be looking.

I’m planning on sharing more insights from my job search in the coming weeks on LinkedIn. It’ll be specific to my search in Germany, but maybe it will still be interesting for you.
