Hello everyone,

I’m seeking recommendations for certifications for testers other than ISTQB. Please let me know if you have any insights on this.

Hi Saibalu!

Please provide some context and let us know why you need or want to obtain certifications for testers. Also, why are you not interested in getting (or perhaps you already have) ISTQB certification?

In general, I believe that certifications for testers/QA professionals hold some value, but I can’t say that there are certifications that are “globally accepted”. While they may be recognized, they are not required in most cases, except for beginners (those at a junior level with little or no experience) or in some rare cases. I would say that other technical certifications and diplomas in software development and IT fields may be more important than certifications specifically for testers.

From my own experience there are not really any globally accepted certifications for testers.

ISTQB seems to still have a regional and industry type bias, my view it tends to favor semi hierarchical cultures but then that can be a negative in other environments that are looking for something different.

Those difference often at the fundamental level can make finding something common at global level very challenging.

Often specific companies will look for more niche certifications.

For example when our test group asked about what would be of most value, the response from the business at the time was actually AWS certifications and to be fair the testers who gained these found them fairly valuable.

These are secondary tier certifications though rather than testing specific but sometimes certifications in specific risk areas can be seen as more valuable than generic testing ones, performance, security, accessibility certifications of some sort may get you noticed for example. I’d notice these on a job application if it came to my desk.

When hiring, rather than certifications I’ve found when people add things around what they have studied, blogs they’ve followed, events attended, where they have written articles, spoken at events and other ways to demonstrate they take their craft fairly seriously can come across better than certifications.

Hey Konstantin,

I already have a few ISTQB certifications, so I’m just looking for some other certifications. As you mentioned, do you know any technical certifications or others that may be helpful for testers?

Thanks in advance

Is there a goal to have more certifications?
Do you want a raise, a new job, to grow in the company, learn stuff, or?

Everything matters, but mainly focussing on Upskilling and learning new stuffs

Instead of focusing on gaining certifications, it would be more beneficial if you prioritize practical knowledge.
Certification might give you a plus point in resume shortlisting but the actual upskilling is in gaining knowledge and knowing how things work, why things work, etc.
Also as there are already lots of platforms that can give you certifications even free of cost, it doesn’t hold any significance anymore.

hello,

not sure if you heard about Cem Kaner? or James Bach and Michael Bolton

They have developed some courses which are valuable because they ask you to think and practice . There are hands on assignments and interactive gradings and feedback.

You can check some sites about courses with certificates:

Seeing as this topic has come up again.

At MoT we have modern and co-created with the community certifications.

The Association for Software Testing also offers BBST courses, which are ‘Community Track’ courses similar to those provided by Altom. Volunteer testing practitioners lead them.

The certification is a bit different (mostly based on peer feedback from other participants) and somewhat less expensive.

There are Many platforms that provide certificate once you complete their course like MOT, The Test Tribe, Test Automation University, API security University , ShiftSync, and Udemy… Certification is good to have, but one need to focus on how and where you apply these skills

I would recommend the MoT Software Testing Certifications | Ministry of Testing
