Why read this?

  • I wanted to share my experience with an important part of the activity I usually perform when I join a new project
  • Why other people are more important than you might imagine
  • Why product knowledge might be more valuable than technical skills
  • How can you influence the team and product value

Applies beyond testing and is based on a 99 second talk from TestBash UK:

Developing software in a cyber secure way

https://www.r-adams.co.uk/2023/04/10/developing-software-in-a-cyber-secure-way/

Usually when people think of security in their jobs, it is about the product but it is important to think about how we work. Imagine being the responsible for letting hackers into your company network because you couldn’t be bothered with firewalls and secure passwords on that test VM you set up… Almost happened to me (sort of).

I must admit that I have never thought of keeping a testing portfolio. A great idea. Thanks for sharing.

After some feedback I rewrote most parts of the article. I had some heavy bugs in it which I was not aware of (so my readers became my testers :no_mouth:)
Would you give it a another try?

Like often in IT, a early deliver was the more important quality than issues in the product.
Would I have found them without the feedback, being ‘betriebsblind’? I do not know…
I let test be done “in production” … (which I like here, but have to communicate it more clearly).
