Should we be automating tasks instead of tests?

With the rise of AI, Agentic AI, MCPs…how will we think about testing differently?

For example, I was thinking about automating tasks as a philosophy, not necessarily instead of tests, in addition to it, but it could be just as important to explore this avenue of being more efficient with our day-to-day processes.

What AI flavoured tasks are worth exploring to automate and help us test better?

Are we talking about regular process automation or specifically with AI?

Automating tasks is a great way to think about AI:

I see AI as a great tool for building tools to do:

  • Automated sanity tests (E2E flow checker).
  • Compliance tasks, and tests
  • Regulatory tasks, and tests
  • Test Environment setup work (via ps1, bash, .bat)

If someone can read code, they can do a lot with AI.

Focus will be the new currency. Whoever has the most will make the most out of AI.

Automating tasks is a great way to save time and boost productivity.
However, one of the challenges is the cost that is associated with these AI agents.

I recently tried to create an AI agent for some specific purpose however, after a certain API call, it was paid, and hence I dropped that idea.
I’m still exploring free ways to create an AI agent, but as long as cost is associated, it might create a barrier to adoption at least up to a certain extent.
