What are the most effective job search websites you had in the past?

I’ve been searching for a job for the past three months and have had a low success rate in securing interviews. I’ve been using the following job sites:

  • LinkedIn
  • TotalJobs
  • Indeed
  • JobServe

What Jobsites do you use?

Aside from MoT’s own job board, I found myself using LinkedIn, Glassdoor and Welcome to the Jungle quite often, when I was looking for work.

I did collate some data on success rate and the converstion of application to initial call was greatly improved when I did the extra work to speak with someone at the company as I was also applying, it was something like 20% success without and 90% success when I did. That didn’t necessarily convert to getting a job, but it did at least lead to less ghosting.

I wish you the best of luck on your job hunt!

Thanks for that @christovskia really helpful. I will try Glassdoor for the next week and of course I only come across the MoT job board today so those 2 should keep me busy.

Are you looking for a remote role or on-site? Also, are you in the US or elsewhere?

Location? Is very important, but I usually use boards to get ideas of what jobs are live, and then I ping a few agents if they are already not pinging me.

There are often local directories local to your city or region. But yeah, you have to push hard, because right now it is a buyers market, the economy is depressed and employers get pick of the bunch, which also means job adverts do not stay up for terribly long these days.

Try some of these:

https://remotive.com/ - you can see a lot on the free if you don’t want to pay and WAY before they pop up on LinkedIn or other places .

Hi @jmosley5, ideally I would love to land a remote role, but I am also open to the hybrid approach. I am based in the U.K

I agree completely, this is the longest dry spell I’ve experienced in my testing career. Thanks for the insight

I’ve never knew these existed, thank you for sharing those.

Hey @akiira !

It’s awesome to see you in the community! :waving_hand:
To make things even better, your question was very open and candid, and a lot of us could relate to it.

Considering the fact that you are a UK-based QA Test Automation Tester, the following job portals would be the best for testing/automation roles:

:small_blue_diamond: CWJobs — the top choice for QA and SDET openings in the UK
:small_blue_diamond: Reed co uk — the best source for tech positions if filters are applied correctly
:small_blue_diamond: Technojobs & Jobsite — lots of postings for contracts and automation
:small_blue_diamond: Glassdoor — underrated platform for direct applications to the companies
:small_blue_diamond: Naukri Gulf — if you are not one to shy away from the Middle East working for automaton positions (high demand)

They are not precisely “job sites”, however, they are very strong in this industry :backhand_index_pointing_down:

:briefcase: Contracting Platforms

• Toptal
• Turing
• Upwork (for short QA automation contracts — many people convert to full-time)

:handshake: UK Recruiters specializing in QA/Automation
Sometimes, following or connecting with a few niche recruiters on LinkedIn can be 10× better than applying through the portals. Quite a few roles never get advertised in public.

A tiny strategy tip that really marks you out and gets you calls for interviews :fire:
Instead of sending your CV out to everyone, change the CV headline according to the role:

:right_arrow: “[QA Automation Engineer | Cypress & API Testing]”
:right_arrow: “[SDET | Java | Selenium | CI/CD]”
:right_arrow: “[QA + Python + Playwright]”

Customizing the headline to the job description might help your CV get through the ATS filter.

Additionally, don’t forget about networking applications. A simple

“Hi, I am actively looking for QA Automation roles — open to UK hybrid/remote. Happy to share my profile.”
If LinkedIn is set up correctly, doing such activity once a week would result in more callbacks than 30 silent applications.

Hang in there! The job market may seem slow, but your hard work will pay off over time.
And if you want CV/LinkedIn review or mock interview practice, just say the word happy to support :handshake:

In India, many other platforms are being actively used by both recruiters and candidates:

  1. Glassdoor
  2. Naukri
  3. Instahire
  4. LinkedIn - fake openings are now more spotted than actual openings
  5. Hirist
  6. The company’s own website is -best source for genuine opening

Very welcome! Hang in there. You’ll get something worthwhile soon.

I think it depends partially on where in the world you are as to which sites are most popular.

Would recommend that you rely on your network and ask for referrals, go to meetups, etc.
