With more powerful tools, I believe it is more important to think about the reasons why we use them. I would like to try a little experiment.
Answer this question to yourself: “Why do / don’t I want to use AI?” Suppose the answer is X.
Answer another question: “Why is X important to me?” Suppose the answer is Y.
Answer the last question: “Why is Y important to me?” Suppose the answer is Z.
Share your Z with others
If there are several answers to the first question, you can choose the most important one or try them all. There is no right or wrong answer, because our reasons are only our reasons
Answer X: I want to use AI but I can’t because I don’t want too. Simply because I don’t trust their output. And I need to be able to rely on something in order to use it.
If a team member of mine tells me " I might do it", that’s not good enough for me. I need either a yes or a no
Answer to X: It’s because I’m a tester. I cannot make assumptions or I cannot rely on people I trust and then don’t commit to the project. It’s like a broken vow.
Answer to Y: Why is it important to trust others?
So we can rely on them and live a healthy life. If I constantly have to check-in with others to see what they are doing or do things myself eventually, I’ll just get frustrated
Yes, exactly, something like this, thank you . So (if I get it right) your 3rd Why is “I want to be able to rely on others and live a healthy life.”. Interesting chain of thoughts!
I can share how I got to one of mine:
Why do / don’t I want to use AI? - To do the routine work for me.
Why is it important to me? - (Because) I want to have more space to be creative
Why is it important to me? - (Because) Creating something makes me happy
Why don’t I want to use AI? Because I value deep thinking and action via the collective creativity of humankind
Why is it important to me? Because life compels us to seek simple creative solutions to complex issues and for our enlightenment it’s the hard work of becoming creative with our craft that keeps us content
Why is it important to me? It’s easy to get caught up moving as fast as possible to get stuff done to free up time, yet perhaps we’re always chasing the outcome instead of experiencing the journey.
Why do I want to use AI? Because I’m curious to explore data in ways I am not able to and I believe AI tooling can help us spot patterns we can’t see right now
Why is it important to me? - Because spotting patterns helps us be creative and work out better ways to help ourselves and others
Why is it important to me? - We only get one shot on this here planet so we better make the most of it!
I loved this exercise, @naovy. Thanks for sharing and starting it!
