When a Software Tester Walks Into a Bar on New Year’s Eve

I wrote a little story for my linkedIn Account and will leave it here too, wishing you a happy new year

When a Software Tester Walks Into a Bar on New Year’s Eve :tada::clinking_glasses:

Yesterday, I was ready to celebrate the New Year in style. Glittering lights, festive vibes, and clinking glasses—everything was set for a relaxed evening. But as a software tester, I see test cases everywhere. Even when ordering a drink.

I walked into the bar, took a seat, and smiled at the bartender. “Hi, I’d like a Prosecco,” I said.

He reached for a bottle, but I held up a hand. “Wait! Could you pour exactly 150 milliliters? I want to see if the glass can handle it.”

He carefully poured, and I nodded. “Great. Now, what if you pour just a single drop?”

The bartender looked puzzled but indulged me. “Interesting,” I murmured. “Okay, now fill it completely to the brim.”

He did, visibly tense. “Do you have a beer mug or a teacup? I’d like Prosecco in one of those,” I added, grinning.

After searching, he brought me a ceramic teacup filled with Prosecco. Perfect.

“Let’s up the challenge,” I said. “Five glasses at once, each with something different—mint, raspberries, sugar rims.”

A crowd had gathered, laughing as the bartender, sweating slightly, presented the drinks.

“Impressive!” I exclaimed. “But one last question: Can you make Prosecco without bubbles?”

That stumped him. He grabbed a spoon and stirred vigorously. Then the glass tipped over, spilling Prosecco.

“Oh no!” he groaned, grabbing a cloth. In his rush, his elbow hit the sound system button.

“10… 9… 8…”

The countdown boomed. Guests froze, then burst into laughter.

“It’s not even midnight!” I laughed. While salvaging the mess, the bartender hit another button: CONFETTI & LIGHT SHOW.

With a bang, confetti cannons fired, and lights flashed. The crowd cheered, embracing the chaos.

“7… 6… 5…”

I raised my glass. “Cheers to the unexpected!”

The bartender, covered in confetti, managed a weary smile.

“4… 3… 2…”

I turned to him with a wink. “Sometimes, the magic isn’t in perfection—it’s in making it unforgettable.”

“1… HAPPY NEW YEAR!”

The bar exploded in jubilation. It was the most chaotic yet perfect New Year’s celebration I could imagine.

As I clinked my glass with the bartender’s, I smiled. “This is why testing edge cases matters.”

No one cared it wasn’t midnight yet. Sometimes, unexpected moments make a night truly special. :clinking_glasses::fireworks:

:fireworks: Lesson Learned: Whether testing software or serving Prosecco, it’s not just about finding bugs—it’s about embracing chaos and making it memorable.
