Meeting people is critical to professional success. But also more importantly - it’s just fab to meet in person people from your community or thank them for that tip or even just their time. Let them know how they added value, are you still interested in talking about that potential new role? Do you have an update on that great craft beer place they recommended, or just to update them on the classical Lord of the Rings concert…
TestBash is a great event to build a real network with strong relationships - so let’s follow up effectively.
Day 7 Task:
Message someone you met at Testbash about anything. Maybe give thanks, feedback, thoughts on a talk. Either on Slack, The Club, reply to them here in the thread or even on socials on Linkedin.
The messaging world is your oyster.
Why Take Part:
Building relationships: A follow-up message can help strengthen the relationship you’ve established. It shows that you value the other person’s perspective and are interested in staying in touch.
Showing you’re proactive: Sending a follow-up message or linkedin request within a week of meeting shows that you’re proactive and want to get things done. You enjoyed your conversation or want to know more.
I’ve been reaching out to many amazing folks from TestBash, and I’m thrilled to say that everyone I contacted has written back! It’s been fantastic to continue our conversations online - those 2 days just weren’t enough to cover all the fascinating topics we touched on.
I also want to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who’s followed up with me or is still chatting about our shared TestBash experience. You’re all rockstars!
To anyone hesitating: Don’t be shy! Reach out to that person you wanted to chat more with. In my experience, people are genuinely happy to continue the conversation. Those brief encounters at TestBash can blossom into valuable professional relationships or even friendships.
Remember, every great connection started with a simple “Hello!” So go ahead, send that message, and keep the TestBash spirit alive!
It’s been fun to message some folks to say hi and share a photo that I happened to take of them during the two days.
This includes some of the contributors in action – up on stage or running a workshop – so they can reflect on their experience from another perspective.
