How to Build Your Personal Brand with Gabbi Trotter

Our second talk of the pre-TestBash Manchester meetup looks at how to build your personal brand with @gabbitrotter, a very useful talk if you’re job searching at the moment

Get your questions asked here during the talk and we’ll do our best to get them all answered live. Remember that liking any questions already asked will increase the chances of them being answered live in the talk

We’ll also use this thread to share resources then after the talk so don’t worry if you missed any

Questions we didn’t get to

@marissa: How much time do you recommend spending building your brand? Daily or weekly?

Steve Devonport: Do you need your own website to promote your brand or should it be done on say LinkedIn?

@lgibbs: What should we do to avoid online abuse, bullying or trolling when building our brand?

@friendlytester: Talking about sharing and social media, how’s the new house?

@leigh.rathbone So, new house, holiday lately, and now a public talk - how you gonna celebrate tonight

How did you get on with the task from Gabbi?

alt text: Pull up your LinkedIn profile and/or Twitter account, your choice, and look at it for a couple of minutes. Write out 5 things that come across from it - Now reflect back on your original values and passion from earlier, are you reflecting them online? It not its time to change that.

Do you have any tips for those who have little time (or energy) to work a lot on their brand?

Hey! Ah thank you all for tuning in!

@marissa: How much time do you recommend spending building your brand? Daily or weekly?
I tend to look at is as a daily task, so I ensure to post at least one piece of content per day, and engage in numerous conversations throughout the day. Also on top of this set monthly goals, in regards to who you want to notice you

Steve Devonport: Do you need your own website to promote your brand or should it be done on say LinkedIn?
I wouldnt say its a need no. I dont have a website but I am super active on Twitter and LinkedIn for example. What ever feels most natural and accessible to you, run with it

@lgibbs: What should we do to avoid online abuse, bullying or trolling when building our brand?
Great question, and something that is all too prevalent these days. I’d would say rise above it, block and ignore. I remember when I was in School I set up a fashion blog, I loved it and was so proud of it. One day I heard a group of girls mocking me and the blog and I was horrified, went home and deleted it all. I so wish now I had the strength then to rise above it

Amazing thank you, its been such a massive week for me home and career wise!

Wine, wine and some more wine!

Thank you @gabbitrotter for the talk, it was really interesting and I’ve loads of notes. I think my USP combines accessibility and my poetry or bad singing
