👋 Introductions Thread – Q4 2024

Hello, it’s Simon Tomes here, Community Lead at Ministry of Testing.

Thanks for stopping by and reading this thread.

We start a new introductions thread for folks to introduce or reintroduce themselves to the community every quarter.

  • What brings you to The Club and Ministry of Testing community?
  • What are you excited about right now?
  • What do you want to learn?
  • Where are you based?
  • What else could you share about yourself?

You don’t have to answer all these questions. Reply in a way that works for you. Use text, video, drawings, AI-generated images, memes or whatever.

We appreciate that some folks step away for a while and return. It’ll be great to hear from you again. :slightly_smiling_face:

Hey everyone! I’m Guy, excited to be here and connect with fellow testers. :slightly_smiling_face:

I’m a territory manager at Panaya, working closely with testing teams across various industries, and I love exploring ways to make testing smarter and easier. Right now, I’m particularly fascinated by test automation and how we can bring real impact to testing cycles with intelligent tools.

I’m based in Israel, and outside of work, I’m all about creative pursuits—music, photography, yoga, and I even co-host a podcast on relationships (non-monogamy specifically). It keeps life quite interesting!

What I’m really looking forward to here is learning from all of you, sharing insights, and being part of the great conversations happening around testing. If there’s anything you’d like to chat about or if you think I can help in some way, feel free to reach out.

Thanks for having me, and I look forward to diving in!

Hello everyone!

I’m Tae-Min and new to the world of testing. I’ve been a second level IT supporter for the last 6 years, but wanted to change my direction into testing.

I want to be part of a team which produces the bugs and has a chance to fix them before they are enrolled and not in a team which get the bugs reported and have to analyse them without the chance to fix them.

I’m very excited for my new role and try to be a BIG sponge for informations to become a good member of the testing community and maybe someday am able to help others like you.

At the moment my long term goal is to become a Test Automation Engineer.
But let’s take one step after the other and be a sponge!

So I hope that we will connect soon and have great conversations!

P.S. English is not my first language… so I’m sorry for the typos and other fatal miscommunications in advance

Hi everyone, I’m Kristiana, a QA Engineer based in San Francisco!

I joined the Ministry of Testing community to connect with others who were passionate about testing and enhance my software testing and quality assurance skills.

I am excited to be part of the community and to peruse the many resources to improve my skills. I want to learn many different facets of testing, from manual testing to test automation to soft skills essential for testers.

I recently started a new role as a QA Engineer for a startup and I’m ecstatic to grow and learn!

Well, I’ve finally made my way here, and I honestly should have joined a long time ago – but you know how life goes when you’re neck-deep in quality, QE, IT, and DevOps for over 20 years! Why I have not been in here ranting and raving…not very mindful. Not demure.

I’m incredibly passionate about all things quality, and at this point, What brings me here? The amazing community, naturally. I’m always excited to connect with people who are as obsessed with quality as I am.

Right now, I’m super pumped about expanding conversations around automation and how it fits into the broader quality strategy. There’s always something new to learn, and that’s why I’m here – to share, learn, and maybe crack a few jokes along the way.

I’m based out of Houston, but thanks to the internet, the world’s my office. As for something else about me? Well, I love what I do so much that quality isn’t just a profession; it’s more of a lifestyle at this point. Let’s just say, if I had a dollar for every time I nitpicked something for not meeting ‘quality standards,’ I’d be on a yacht right now. :smirk:

Just recently, I was voted Quality Leader of the Year at Mabl Experience and that was such an honor as I speak and work from my heart and you just never know who may be watching or is touched by it.

Looking forward to diving in here and meeting like minded folks!

What got me here? I’ve been part of this amazing MoT community for years, and it feels like home! After my recent TestBash talk and showcasing Epic Test Quest with our scavenger hunt booth, I’m excited to dive back in deeper. With my new venture, I want to be more active again because we’re building something special - a tool created for and with this awesome community.

Based in Berlin, Germany, and always up for grabbing a coffee or joining a meetup together! Let’s connect and geek out about testing! :coffee:

Hello,

I’m Ben Dowen, also known as the Full Snack Tester on many social media platforms.

I started my journey working in Software Testing many sleeps ago, when I graduated from University in 2012 and went to work for a large us tech company, Citrix.

It was when I was made redundant from Citrix some five years later, that I really found the wider Testing Community and MoT, after joining a small start-up where I didn’t have the established community of practice to lean on and learn from.

Since then I’ve continued my journey growing in the community, building my network while making excellent friends, and giving back and celebrating others where I can.

Today, I am starting the MoT Essentials Certificate course. But wait, isn’t that for beginners… ya know, like junior testers? Sure it is! And yet, I’m confident there is plenty I can still learn, or re-learn and where I can, share that learning with others and give back.

I hope to hear from some of you on here about your learning journey, and what you’re currently learning.

Speak soon,

Ben

Hello all. My name is Alex and I’m an IT veteran (38 years) based in central Ohio (USA).
Right now I’m excited about starting a new job as a ServiceNow tester at the beginning of December after being laid off in January of this year. I’ve spent the last 5 years in testing / release management / upgrades and I’m looking forward to focusing on testing. Basically, I’m just hoping to spend the last few years of my career doing interesting stuff.
Outside of work I really enjoy reading - sci-fi, history & biographies are my favorites.

Hi everyone!

I’m Lynda, and I am a Quality Engineer based in Belfast. I am pretty new to the community, I got an Unlimited membership for MoT, as I wanted to do a couple of the Test Automation Certifications, and with that I was able to attend TestBash as well. I loved it and it gave me so much renewed energy and enthusiasm for testing, and I am enjoying the benefits of being part of the community and learning from others. Although I have been working in testing for nearly 6 years, I am excited to go back to the fundamentals because I know there will be things I can learn, and also help others with, as they are starting out on their careers.

  • What are you excited about right now?
    • Finally started writing my testing/development practices book
    • I’ve really been in to implementing programming languages/compilers. Especially how to test them :face_with_spiral_eyes:
  • What do you want to learn? That’s a great question because I’ve been struggling with that. Something outside my comfort zone
  • Where are you based? United States
  • What else could you share about yourself? I’ve been writing code for nearly 30 years. 15+ of those years as a hobbyist. Broke in to the industry as a tester. I’m 100% fully a developer and tester. For me they are one in the same but my experience has taught me this isn’t true for most. I try to use my unique experience to help developers be better testers.

I thought I’d get more involved in the testing community to help my training and progression into this new career path. I’m very excited to be learning lots of new things and slowly feeling like I almost know what I’m doing at work  I’m based in South Devon, I’ve grown up on smallholdings and have a background in performance so this is a complete career 180 for me!

Hi Everyone,

I’m Adam and I’ve been directed to MoT to complete the Introduction to software development and testing course as part of the application process for an apprenticeship in testing.

I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in to everything there is to learn here and hopefully the job application goes well so I can continue to be a part of this community going forward.

Wish me luck and any tips for complete beginner in learning the field or impressing prospect employers would be greatly appreciated. :crossed_fingers:
