Is your current role remote, hybrid or in office?

My current project is thankfully overwhelmingly remote – with meeting folks at the project site about twice a year for 2-3 days.

As I’m (…for German standards) rather remote to the project site (≈ 300km), I really appreciate this, as there’s no travelling, staying in hotels etc. Instead I get to sleep in my own bed, go to ‘my’ gym (or swimming in the ocean), overall stay more at home. On top it also less engirt consuming and therefore better for the environment.

One of the interesting things will be for me is when compensation starts to get balanced against this.

One of the challenges is that we are at the new normal already, working remote and making X. So it depends on which way companies go, pay more for those in office or reduce salaries for those wanting to continue remote, the latter could be tough but still an option for many where time, travel, cost of living location and family time have generated a lot of value.

I personally would not take a 20% reduction to stay remote, mainly because my travel times and costs are low and I enjoy being in office.

I would though if offered take a 25% more to go to office 4 days a week, full time or loss of flexibility though and I might need to turn that down.

There could be arguments against going down this path but for me I suspect it will happen with at least some companies.

In my place, the office (5 days a week) is mandatory for the QA team, while developers are required to come in about five days a month, depending on the needs (hybrid). If someone is new to the office and wants to learn about the projects and culture, they’re encouraged to come in.

I’m currently working remotely with permission, and I prefer working from home due to the flexibility and the benefits it provides. As someone with a physical challenge, WFH is more comfortable for me, as it alleviates any insecurities I might have in the office setting.

Hybrid go to office 45days in a quarter

Fully remote and have been for 17 years!

Last few jobs were remote, all with option to go to the office if I want to (but without any mandatory time, everything fully optional).

I do like going to the office, but I rarely go there because it’s more comfortable working from home and I don’t waste my time on commute.

I am working in a remote-only company for ~4 years. The company started “remote” work on the first day, long before the remote trend began.

I have been working remotely ever since the pandemic in March 2020 with maybe the occasional day in the office. Now its fully remote. They recently closed our Sussex office so now my nearest is in Dartford (which isn’t the easiest or quickest of places to get to!). But working from home for us makes entire sense as my team is now scattered across three different continents!

Due to health reasons I wouldn’t be wanting to move back to a hybrid or in office role unless it was really close to where I lived. I find working remotely far more convenient and comfortable from a personal point of view plus you get so much time and energy back from not having to commute.

Hybrid
3 days a week from the office - Mon, Wen, Fri but we can work all days from the office lol, there are options to work remotely more often but only by request and approval, it’s more like occasional stuff, e.g. some personal stuff, it’s easy to work from home a couple more days every month if needed

I am grateful for remote work, otherwise I would not be able to work due to my current health issues.
Without the option to work fully remote, I would be forced to be out of work until my health improves.
I am able to work - my brain works - and I have proved to be a valuable member of the team (or so I’ve been told ^_^) , so scrapping remote work or forcing hybrid models could force some people out of work.

Remote with 1 day per month in the office to remind ourselves what we look like in real life!

Remote but we have to live within a reasonable distance to the office (unless given special permission which some have). There are regular mandatory events we have to show up for and coming into the office is encouraged as well as incentivized. I go into the office voluntarily an average of 2 days per week (sometimes I want to see and talk to someone who is not a cat).

How does WFO improve the quality?

I worked in a remote company where we only had like 3 issues in prod in a whole year. :stuck_out_tongue: (security company but still high quality and remote)

It depends on the continuous testing and coverage but
I accept the following statement every application is not a 100% bug free😂

Testing never stops :rocket:

Officially we are meant to be in the office at least 2 times a week. However as we don’t have enough desks, we can’t all come in all the time!

Although I am currently officially in a hybrid role I rarely have to go into the office.

Interesting though most roles.I have seen advertised are asking for at least 2 or 3 days a week in the office. That is not to say that there are not full time remote or full time office based roles.

What is everyone else experience?
