Hi @gregster22,
Do keep an eye on Job Adverts . Any job posted on the Ministry of Testing jobs board automatically appears there.
It looks like there’s a local opportunity posted on 28th March. Perhaps though it doesn’t fit your requirements as I see you mentioned “manual”.
Great Stuff Mate!
Thanks a million! I wrote to them anyways, just to see what they have in store.
That’s great. And perhaps they might be able to connect you to other companies in the area too.
Hi @gregster22 ,
My name is Teresa Reynolds, I co-organise the Cambridge Ministry of Testing meetup. Its a great place to make connections and network, which is sometimes how you hear of open positions and opportunities - find the group on Meetup.com. I can recommend a good employment agency, So Code, their QA/Test recruiters sometimes attend the meetup and every interaction I’ve had with them has been very positive.
Good luck in your job hunting!
Teresa
Hi Teresa,
I have registered with the Group.
Thank you!
You don’t specify what kind of manual testing? Mobile/Desktop/Embedded?
Hi, been in Cambridge a while now, it’s a stable job hub for tech jobs much like Oxford, and the London-to-Reading corridor. It’s expensive to live near the city or the rail links, but that’s not your question. I use https://www.cambridgenetwork.co.uk/jobs as my starting point every time I move. As Teresa points out, coming to a meetup will help loads (that said, guilty, not been to one for ages.) That site will give you a good idea of what tech companies there are in the city too, so you can get more clues where to go hunting.
Our QA team has just by 3 spaces, all contractors. But these are automation roles, all of which we have been unable to fill with permanent staff locally. So you get the picture, it’s a active hub for seekers with skills. Keep your smile on and someone will grab you @gregster22 .
Hi Conrad, thanks a million for the encouragement! The last thing I was working on was an Online Academy site desktop with a mobile extension a little bit after when it was done
I can put some effort into the automatization and maybe I can fill in someday
Sure thing. To be brutally honest I’ve only ever attended meetups when bored or job-seeking. They had a morning session that used to run as a really fun lean coffee before work, with deeper dive sessions in the evening less frequently. The high value part is that they are brilliant for connecting and then finding linkedin profiles of people afterwards.
Hi Conrad, are you guys working with the Selenium Frame system?
Not really @gregster22 . We are looking for people with strong python skills, and Java in some roles. We have a homebuilt test framework grid system which turns pytest into a “grid” of nodes. So we do use selenium, but it’s a small part of our picture. Our product is desktop, web and mobile but has automation hooks in debug builds which means we do very little manual testing.
Nice one! I look into it. It is not difficult.-it shouldn’t be at least
I have used Cambridge Network in the past too. Now mainly use Indeed jobs & Linked In (I have a notification set up for the latter, so get sent emails for open test positions).
Hi Gregster, have you looked at local recruitment agencies?
It’s been a while since I was a hiring manager but, of the local agencies that handled testers, https://www.ecmselection.co.uk always stood out as understanding the field and trying to fit people to roles with care.
I’m out of touch now, but of the non-local ones I recall https://saffronqa.co.uk/ particularly too.
Hi James,
I will check them out!
Thank you for your help!
