I’ve used Camtasia and Snagit for a long time but then found Loom and now use only it on my Mac and iPhone for the last 5 months. Why?
You record a video and it’s auto-uploaded to your video library in the cloud in seconds, so all you need is to copy a link and paste it into your bug report. Goodbye to all dropboxes, google drives and wasting time to copy/paste, move to proper folder, re-name, share it and you know
You can add voice over explaining your actions and expectations (extremely helpful to the developer to watch and listen to 1 min video instead of reading )
You are notified when your video is viewed, so you know when if finally got attention
It costs me like about $10 per month and there is no space limit, so I don’t need to worry that my google drive is out of space again.
@kinofrost - LiceCap seems nice because it is simple and produces small sized recording. This is excellent when the bug is easy to spot and understand. Also helpful because many tools like bug trackers, chat apps, browsers etc. can play gifs without any extra software or setup, unlike video files.
But, gifs don’t not have sound. I often need sound to clearly explain what is going on. Does LiceCap have an option to highlight the mouse icon (with halo) & highlight clicks ? If not, then its harder for the viewer to track the mouse movements.
So, I could use lice cap for short bugs & high-end screen recorder for big ones. But, I don’t want to deal with two tools, so I’ll just stick to my screen recorder.
IMO, LiceCap seems better alternative to videos to show short demos in documents & web pages. Its not good for bug reporting.
