What impact will AI have on workplace collaboration?

This idea sparked a new line of thinking for me. Could AI-powered tools—designed to improve efficiency—actually lead to less collaboration among team members? Could they encourage more independent work at the expense of teamwork?

My expectation is that people will communicate less. Which is a pity as we spent so much time trying to get them to talk.

I’m hearing you, Raymund. That too is indeed my concern.

I think leaders will have to make extra effort to encourage an environment that fosters high levels of collaboration amongst colleagues.

It will depend on how we adopt AI in our lives, suppose we use AI as our collaborator then obviously we are going to have less interaction with our teammates who are our real-life collaborators but if we use AI as a tool to boost our productivity then there will be a chance that we may have the conversation as we currently have.

Or because the use of AI as a productivity boost will mean that the C level decides that you need less colleagues to communicate with :frowning:

I don’t think the AI is the one having an impact. It’s the people, as usual.
Some are more capable than others:

  • of being skeptical and critical of what AI returns
  • on querying AI on different topics
  • on using or not some piece of AI information
Then, because we’re not siloed generally in testing, what matters is also how others interpret their queries/usage of AI, and the information provided by the testers.

Seeing how testing ‘evolved’ in recent years based on the people it has, I’d say things head towards negative impacts.
Collaboration is one of many other skills to be impacted.
